The Tan Gatue's been making flags since the late 1910's with Alejandro Tan Gatue, who was the pioneer patriarch who came from China in the year 1903. He was initially supplying linens to the Americans for various needs until such time that they commissioned him to make the US and Philippine Flags.

In 1921, Alejandro's son Pablo put up a self named flag shop, which was the country's first of its kind. Until, 1945 when the 2nd World War broke out , Pablo had to stop the business because of the Japanese occupation.

After the Japanese occupation, Pablo's eldest son Gregorio & wife Luningning continued the business. At present, Luningning at 75 years old, together with son Gregory is still very active with the flag business.

The Making of the Philippine Flag: During his exile in Hong Kong in 1897, Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo designed the Filipino flag as it looks today. The flag was sewn by Dona Marcela Marino de Agoncillo with the help of her daughter Lorenza and Mrs. Delfina Herbosa de Natividad (niece of the Philippine National Hero - Dr. Jose P. Rizal). It was first raised during the declaration of Independence on June 12, 1898 in Kawit, Cavite
